Simagic review

Comments 5 January In Hardware. It is safe to say that when beginning Sim Racing enthusiasts take their sim-racing hobby to a higher level, chances are they will want to upgrade their trusty belt-driven wheel to a Direct-Drive Force Feedback steering wheel.

While most direct drive wheel systems are not cheap due to their design cost and materials used, it does not mean that there are no affordable alternatives on the market.

In the last few years, new products appeared and brought more competition to the niche Direct Drive wheelbase market, resulting in some interesting price drops. One of these new manufacturers is the Chinese Simagic company. They recently introduced two new direct drive wheel systems in the form of the Simagic M10 and Simagic Alpha units. The M10 is delivering 10 Nm torque and is marketed as an entree-level DD unit, while the 15 Nm Alpha model is aimed at the professional market and more demanding Sim Racing enthusiast.

Both the M10 and Alpha wheelbases are currently on pre-order and are expected to be shipped during February Besides the new Direct Drive wheelbases, Simagic also introduced two steering wheels.

Furthermore, the wheel features a Wireless Communication module for its internal electronics. Both wheel rims are available with or without an optional Dual-Clutch system. While the official pricing is not yet announced, we can already have seen the M10 wheelbase and GT4 wheel rim listed at some exclusive Simagic partner websites as follows:.

We can only assume that the current GT4 rim on sale does not include the wireless module. We will keep you informed when more info becomes available.

Simagic states that Nm is what is being regarded as the required toque needed for high-end sim racing wheels. The remaining Nm is used to minimize force feedback clipping, and to help attenuate sudden feedback changes.

The M10 stepper motor is equipped with three CPUs to rapidly process the incoming signals resulting in a Hz refresh rate for USB communication, and a Hz update rate for force feedback controls. The Simagic Alpha 15 Nm Direct Drive unit utilizes a servo motor which is optimized for sim racing, providing more torque response than the M10 entree-level unit. Compared to the 10 Nm stepper motor of the M10, the 15 Nm Alpha servo motor is better equipped to maintain high torque under high wheel speeds.

After having managed a few leagues, i decided to start a website that covered news and interesting topics within the Sim Racing scene. While it started out as a little and modest project, bsimracing. M10 in the other hand uses an industrial-grade stepper motor.

All our custom made motors are specially manufactured for sim racing.

Servo motor has a very different response compares to the stepper motor. The former can maintain high torque in high-speed rotation. This is critical for sim racing as the torque reflects the force feedback, and that is the ultimate key for you to break your track record. Alpha can produce no less than 15 Nm of torque even in high load conditions, while the M10 can produce up to 10 Nm of torque. Matching the torque output in most real race cars with power steering.

Introducing the Alpha

We want you to feel like you are driving in the real world. Thus we invited multiple race drivers to provide feedback and suggestions on our products. Reaction time is critical for taking corrective action when approaching to the apex or overtaking opponents. Both Alpha and M10 have three CPUs to control the motor, the gaming effects, and the USB communication, together, they have one of the fastest system response time, while maintains all the details on force feedback. Naturally removes barriers between the simulated world and the driver.

Superb holding torque, finest smooth actions, and exceptional low cogging performance result in a driving experience just like driving a real race car. Introducing the Alpha the ultimate professinoal direct drive racing simulator.

Simagic M Thread starter rjkoneill Start date Jan 14, Apr 20, 17 6 Hi RD Looking to upgrade my wheel at some point this year. The wheel and quick release look really well built, good features on the buttonbox and plenty of mounting options on the wheelbase itself. I know it's early days but what would be my main drawbacks considering a relatively new unit like this other than software support?

It looks like the torque figures are much lower than other DD bases, but would it be significantly more detailed than a belt driven unit? My only experience with DD is a business meeting I had at Vesaro around 5 years ago when I worked at OcUK and it was mind-blowing but I think that opinion was swayed by the simulator as a whole and not just the wheel specifically.

I ran nords in their top of the range setup on the day. I have only spotted a few videos on YouTube with brief overviews on the Simagic unit so I guess nobody has one in hand yet?Forget about the out-dated belt-drive system. Direct drive is the only known way to achieve real-life race car steering dynamic range.

It's just a pure connection to the road behind the wheel. Connect your wheel directly to a fast response direct drive motor for maximized simulation of force feedback. This is the only way toward a professional sim racing. As our entry-level sim racing wheel base, M10 managed to have the best range of torque for sim racing. The highest force required is usually when you hit the curbs or at the bottom of this hill.

Professional race drivers were invited during the design process. Iterations were made to best simulate the real racing. To unleash the full capability of the stepper motor, M10 uses three CPUs to process signals. The result is astonishing. Ultimate refresh rate and update rate are achieved thanks to the Tri-CPU structure.

Finishing - CNC aluminum housing with an anodizing surface, carbon fiber panels for front and back covers. Motor - Three phase stepper motor optimized for sim racing uses. Max Toque - 10 Nm. Location Sensor - Pulses per revolution.

Refresh Rate - Hz for in-game data communication, Hz for force feedback control. Standard Warranty - 12 months, optional extension of 3 or 5-year warranty available only at the time of purchase.

We cover 1 year warranty internationally.

Dec 8, 98 Sim Racing Garage: "I only tested it for a couple of days before I had to send it back to the person who owned it.

Once they are shipping the production units, I plan on getting one to review. Apr 20, 17 6 Going off what i have seen on the above video and the unboxing video, am I correct in thinking that the QR on this wheel would be compatible with regular quick release systems from cars? A concern that crossed my mind the other day after I posted the OP was that there is a quick release system for this wheel base but only two wheel variants that the manufacturer ships.

The stock wheel looks great and would work for the majority of the race disciplines I prefer to run but I would like the option to throw on a deep dish wheel for drifting and ignore the use of the built in auto shifters and use a H pattern potentially.

SIMAGIC Introducing Two New Direct Drive Wheels

Otherwise it works perfectly well ". Jason Mullin RPM.

Mar 3, You must consider not only the physical weight of the base but also the horizontal forces a DD creates. Mar 9, 15 14 I think that's managable, at least with a counterweight for good measure. And thinking about weight, I am coming more and more to the conclusion that the M10 is no sensible option, as it is, as far as I could find out until now, way too heavy.

Sorry for hijacking this thread. Oh yes, I know these pictures of those guys who put a DD1 and similar on their Playseat Challenge, and I do think that's at least one step too far. I do expect a certain challenge as the chair's name says, eh to manage the open hinge without having the seat doing an instand cartwheel, but when it tends to tip forwards while closed, it cannot be healthy.

Speaking of which, ColinMac : I do not leave the seat unattended. I only take it out of it's corner when our 4yo daugther is away to bed, and I wouldn't even leave it alone with her around in it's current setup with the TX base. Reactions: ColinMac. Oct 28, I do sort of admire this. You could get away with a wheeled TrakRacer RS6 - agreed it's hardly lounge friendly though.
